Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about soft tissue adhesion treatment, nerve entrapment, fees, and what to expect at Discover Soft Tissue + Spine in Grand Rapids?

Start here. If you still have questions, contact our office.

Soft tissue adhesions are areas of restricted, scar-like tissue that can limit how muscles, fascia, tendons, and nearby tissues move. These restrictions may contribute to pain, tightness, stiffness, weakness, reduced flexibility, or altered movement. In some cases, they may also contribute to mechanical nerve irritation.

Yes. Imaging can be helpful, but it does not always explain why someone still has pain, tightness, or restricted movement. Some soft tissue problems do not show clearly on routine imaging, which is why hands-on evaluation and movement testing are often important.

Our office focuses on evaluation-based care for soft tissue restrictions, adhesion-related problems, nerve entrapment patterns, and chronic musculoskeletal pain. We use history, movement testing, orthopedic and neurological testing, and targeted hands-on treatment to identify what may be limiting normal function. Care is based on your findings, not a one-size-fits-all treatment routine.

Possibly. Many patients come to our office after trying other treatments without fully resolving the problem. In some cases, persistent pain, tightness, weakness, or restricted movement may involve soft tissue restriction, adhesion-related problems, or nerve entrapment patterns that need a more targeted evaluation. The best way to know whether our office may be a good fit is with a consultation or examination.

Patients who may be a good fit often have musculoskeletal pain, movement restriction, persistent tightness, weakness, or suspected nerve irritation, especially when symptoms have not fully improved with previous treatment. Many of our patients have already tried other approaches and are looking for a more targeted evaluation. The best way to determine fit is with a consultation or examination.

No. You do not need a referral to schedule a consultation or examination at our office.

Yes. New patients start with either a consultation or a comprehensive examination so we can determine whether our office is the right fit for the problem you are dealing with. This helps us understand your history, evaluate your condition, and decide whether our type of care is appropriate.

Your first visit is designed to help us understand your problem in detail. It typically includes:

  • Complete history and discussion of your condition
  • Neurological testing
  • Range of motion testing
  • Functional movement testing
  • Orthopedic testing
  • Review of relevant imaging and medical history
  • Clinical impression and diagnosis
  • Explanation of findings
  • Recommendations for next steps

Please bring any relevant imaging reports or records you would like us to review.

No. The first visit is focused on evaluation, diagnosis, and determining the most appropriate plan. If you are a good fit for care, treatment typically begins at the following visit.

Please wear clothing that allows easy access to the area being evaluated or treated. Workout-style clothing is usually best. For shoulder problems, a tank top or loose sleeveless shirt can be helpful. For low back, hip, or leg problems, athletic shorts are recommended.

Most follow-up visits are brief and focused, often around 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the area being treated and the goals of care for that visit.

The number of visits depends on the area involved, how long the problem has been present, how restricted the tissue is, and how your body responds to care. Some patients notice measurable functional changes early, while others require a longer plan. After your examination, we will discuss what appears reasonable for your case and re-evaluate progress along the way.

Some patients notice changes in mobility, function, or symptoms relatively early, while others improve more gradually. Our goal is not just short-term relief, but measurable improvement in movement and function that can be sustained over time.

Yes. We evaluate some cases involving suspected mechanical nerve irritation or nerve entrapment, especially when surrounding soft tissue restriction may be part of the problem. Symptoms can include radiating pain, numbness, tingling, altered sensation, or weakness, depending on the area involved.

Our comprehensive new patient examination is $250. This includes your history, physical examination, review of relevant records, diagnosis, and explanation of findings.

Follow-up visits are $95. If your case requires a different type of visit or a different amount of time, we will discuss that with you clearly.

Treatment in our office is based on your diagnosis, examination findings, and clinical needs—not on insurance company rules. For that reason, our office is self-pay and out of network with insurance. We do not verify insurance benefits or out-of-network coverage. If you plan to use insurance, we recommend contacting your carrier before starting care so you understand your benefits. We are happy to discuss our fees with you in advance.

Yes. We can provide a detailed superbill for self-pay patients who want to submit their visits to insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We do not verify benefits or estimate reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of service, and any reimbursement depends on your plan.

We participate with Original Medicare when Medicare is primary. We do not participate with Medicare Advantage plans, and we do not verify secondary or supplemental benefits. If you have additional coverage, we recommend contacting your plan before starting care so you understand your benefits. Medicare coverage for chiropractic offices is limited. Medicare may cover manual manipulation of the spine to correct a vertebral subluxation when Medicare requirements are met. Most other services we provide, including examinations and soft tissue treatment, are not covered by Medicare when performed by a chiropractor.

We accept cash, check, major credit cards, health savings accounts (HSA), and flexible spending accounts (FSA).

If your evaluation suggests that our office is not the right fit, we will tell you. Our goal is to help you make an informed decision about the next best step for your care.
